Chaos

Growing up, I must say that I was pretty spoiled. Being the first child, grand child and great grand child, I was given so many opportunities and was showered with gifts and other things. I will say for the most part,  I had a pretty good life, but there were certain parts that performed a lot of chaos.

When I was 10, I moved from my grandmother house into my mom and step dad house. While living there,  I felt like I was living in hell. I felt a lot of times that they hated me. Growing up, I remember my step dad calling me a bastered child, saying that I was jealous because my siblings had both parents in their life and that my father didn’t want any part of me, and sometimes making me not eat because I did something wrong. When I turned 12, my aunt, my mother sister decided to take full custody of me. After moving from my mother house, my life got back on track.

The region or country in the world that I like to know more about is my own country, the USA. I chose my country, because something’s that goes on in our country I totally do not agree with such as raising money for other countries that are dealing with poverty, adopting children from other countries, and focusing more on other nations than our own nation. I do not mean to sound bitter, but times I get frustrated when I see my country do more for other countries then they do for their own. For example, there is a lot of poverty, violence, hunger, chaos, Racism in our own country, but yet we fail to focus on that. I never understood why we focus more sometimes on children from other nations, when we have children here living below the poverty line, being abused, dealing or living around violence, starving, and living in pure chaos. Sometimes I think its better if we take the time and focus on our country and fix the issues here first.

Breastfeeding

Breastfeeding your baby is a personal matter that can keep your baby healthy and strong. Breast milk provides lots of nutrients for infants which can help fight off germs and antibodies that cause sickness. Breast milk is nearly a perfect mix of vitamins, protein, and fat, which is everything that helps a baby grow (WebMD.com, 2014). Breastfeeding your baby lowers risks of your baby having allergies or even asthma (WebMD.com, 2014). “Breastfeeding has been linked to higher IQ scores in later childhood studies” (WebMd, 2014). Some benefits for moms who breastfeed is the extra calories you burn which can help you lose weight. “Breastfeeding lowers your risk of breast and ovarian cancer”(webMD.com, 2014).

Breastfeeding is meaningful to be because it provides so many health benefits for the baby as well as the mother. As a mother, I breast fed my son for about six months and I must say, I am thankful that I did decide to breast feed because I never really had to take off from work due to my son being sick. My son was considered a healthy baby boys and doctors stated to me, "You breastfeeding your baby protects him from different diseases that are out here. The only downfall about breastfeeding my baby is that he was constantly hungry so at times I would do half breast milk and half Similac milk to keep him full longer. Overall, I would recommend breastfeeding your baby due to the major benefits it provides.

Birthing experience

My birthing experience was an amazing experience. In the beginning, I suffered with a low lined placenta and was placed on bed rest when I was close to my six month mark. I enjoyed feeling my baby move, hearing his heart beat, and watching my belly grow. At 38 weeks, I went to the doctor to have a weekly visit. When they checked my weight, I had gained 20 pounds in a week due to fluid in my feet. When the doctor checked my blood pressure, my pressure was so high that they had to admit me to the hospital. My labor was induced and at 10:48 I gave birth to a 7lb 8 oz baby boy name Elijah on June 20, 2011. Giving birth is an awesome experience and I would gladly do it again.

Examining Code of Ethics

                                                                                    NAEYC

I-1.1- To be familiar with the knowledge base of early childhood care and education and to stay informed through continuing education and Training.

*I find this code to be important to me because I believe it is important to stay up to date with information on early childhood education. Information in the early childhood field constantly gets updated and research is always being put out especially when it can be beneficial to us. It is important to stay up on the education and receive adequate training to continue to be an effective professional.

I-1.3-To recognize and respect the unique qualities, abilities, and potential of each child.

*All children are unique and learn at their own pace. This Idea meant a lot to me because children are unique in their own way. No child learns the same way or will be on the same level at the same time. We must respect each child uniqueness, abilities and potential because children learn at different pace. This is a perfect reason why we should never make a child feel less than any other child who is beyond their development because no all children can grasp information at the same time.

P-1.5- We shall use appropriate assessment systems, which include multiple sources of information, to provide information on children’s learning and development.

*This code meant a lot to me because assessment is a biggie for me because at times I do not agree with them because some assessments are too advance for young children, but I love this code because it clearly states, “We SHALL use appropriate assessment systems.” It is ok to assess and evaluate a child, but only if it’s done fairly.
                                                                  DEC-The Division for Early Childhood.
I.                    Professional Practice
                    Professional and Interpersonal Behavior
1.       We shall demonstrate in our behavior and language respect and appreciation for the unique value and human potential of each child
*As a educator, I find this code important because we should show appreciation to each child and respect them at all levels. My behavior and attitudes shows how I feel about each individual child. We should always demonstrate positive behavior and language to children and not belittle them with our words and actions.
                    Professional Collaboration
2.) We shall honor and respect the diverse backgrounds of our colleagues including
such diverse characteristics as sexual orientation, race, national origin, religion
                                  beliefs, or other affiliations.
*Different cultural backgrounds is becoming more common in the early
childhood field. This one is important to me because I love to learn various
individuals backgrounds and use them as a learning experience. Honoring and
respecting diverse backgrounds of our colleagues shows that their origin,
religion, beliefs and other affiliations are important just as much as ours.
III. Responsive Family Centered Practices:
Enhancement of Children’s and Families Quality of Lives
3.) We shall recognize and respect the digitiy, diversity, and autonomy of the families
                         and children we serve.
*This one means a lot to me because education and children is what I'm most passionate
about. Recognizing and respecting the dignity, diversity, and autonomy of the families
and children we serve is what we do everyday with the agency I work for. Our
children and families are our main priority and we respect them and their diversity at all
                     times.

Words of Inspiration and Motivation

One quotes or excerpts from writings or speeches of each of the two people you identified for your Discussion assignment this week.
President Lyndon Johnson

1.)    "The Great Society is a place where every child can find knowledge to enrich his mind and to enlarge his talents.... It is a place where men are more concerned with the quality of their goals than the quantity of their goods." (http://americanhistory.about.com/cs/lyndonbjohnson/a/quotelbj.htm)

2.)    "Once we considered education a public expense; we know now that it is a public investment." (http://americanhistory.about.com/cs/lyndonbjohnson/a/quotelbj.htm)

Lillian Katz

1.)    “We are doing earlier and earlier to children what we shouldn’t do later.” (http://www.empoweredbyplay.org/2011/06/words-of-wisdom-from-dr-lilian-katz/comment-page-1/ )

2.)    “please do not confuse excitement with learning,” adding, “You can be addicted to excitement and that is a dangerous thing.” (http://www.empoweredbyplay.org/2011/06/words-of-wisdom-from-dr-lilian-katz/comment-page-1/)

One or two quotes about passion, motivation, and wisdom from the professionals in the media segment you watched during Week 2 of the course
“Most of passion comes from Intrinsict motivation” (Raymond Hernandez MS.Ed)
“I always wanted to be a teacher” (Louise Derman-Sparks)
